General descriptionSnipe fishes belong to the family „Macrorhamphosidae“ with 3 genera and 11 species. They are found in tropical and subtropical marine waters of the Atlantic, Indian and Pcific Ocean. Snipe fishes are small (may reach about 25 cm in length but are mostly half that size), deep-bodied fishes commonly silver, pink, purple, or red coloured sometimes with as many as 5 oblique dark bars across body. Snipe fishes have a long, narrow, tubular snouts, there mouth is small and toothless.
