General descriptionThe bandfishes (Trachipteridae) or ribbon fish are a family of "Lampriformes". The from 10cm to 3meters long expectant pelagic species live in all oceans including the Mediterranean and the Arctic Ocean.

The siber colored fish have a long, the whole body full dorsal fin, which is constantly waving. The small, fan-shaped tail fin is inclined upward. Sense- or Band fish have no ribs.
